Journal Day 3 – 3 pivotal Japanese, Roman and Persian Unifiers –

January 14th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

Was inspired to do a bit of research today into the unifying of Japan, which had up until the time of the three individuals below, been made up of tribal states and warring kingdoms. It took war to bring unity, but out of the fire came the Country of Japan.

The three Japanese known as the great “Unifiers” of Japan from the 16th and 17th centuries:

Oda Nobunaga and his betrayer Akechi Mitsuhide

Toyotomi Hideyoshi

Tokugawa Ieyasu

I’ve studied many of the unifying times and leaders in history, I’ve read Shogun by James Clavell, but today was the first day I was introduced to these four individuals in more detail and it seemed like it was inspired. Interesting parallels between Oda and Akechi (Oda’s betrayer) and Julias Caesar and Brutus (Julias Caesar’s most famous betrayer) in some ways. I felt a connection. Then perhaps some of the Augustus and Marc Anthony energy following a similar line to Iyeasu or Hedeyoshi.
It is said:

Oda Nobunaga pounded the rice
Hideyoshi baked the cake
and Tokugawa Ieyasu ate it

Also somewhat similar to three great Persian Unifier’s from the 6th and 5th Century B.C.:

Cyrus the Great was a father,
Cambyses was a taskmaster,
and Darius was a shopkeeper.

Which I also felt inspired was important to check out. Cyrus is a key historical figure, it seems one of the better leaders in known history, and surprisingly looked at as a messiah (divinely guided leader) in the Jewish religion because he protected the Jews from Nebuchadnezzar II and sent them to what they considered their promised land to rebuild their temple.

History has many parallels, different ages, different religions, different cultures, yet the story that outplays itself seems to often have many similarities. Who were the souls that inhabited these leaders? Is it possible that many times a leader might embody in one culture, and at a later time, in an entirely different culture, yet play a similar role? While certainly not cut and dry, perhaps history is more purposeful and connected then we may have thought… Indeed. More to come on this in a more flushed out format in due time.

P.S. Although I’m writing everyday, not all my journal post will be published. This one wasn’t really met for publishing, but thought I would anyway. I will try and keep the published ones useful and entertaining for whoever may stumble upon them in addition to a way for me to keep track of Shift ~ Life ~ Being ~ by the day ~: )
